My ultimate objective is to drive businesses towards greatest efficiency and minimize waste for my employer, be it a government or private organization. For government organization, I will bring change to reduce the squandering of taxpayer dollars and remove unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles faced by the common citizen. Similarly, for private organization, I will reduce process waste related to all types of resources – time, human, environmental, and financial.
To succeed in my mission and influence organizational changes, I must operate at a C-level position. Ideally, throughout my career I strive to bounce between private and government employers and act as a conduit for transferring knowledge and best practices from one domain to the next.
An EMBA is essential for me to improve my communication both up and down the organizational hierarchy. While, I have already demonstrated leadership skills based on feedback from my colleagues in my past roles, an EMBA will sharpen these skills further, catalysing my rise within the organizational hierarchy.
My short-, medium- and long-term goals are:
- Short-term goal: To lead my team with the skills I learn in the MBA program in my current role.
I will apply the skills learned in Leadership and Teamwork portion of the EMBA curriculum immediately in my team.
- Medium-term goal: To transition into a senior leadership role (director, program manager, portfolio manager, etc.).
I will facilitate decision-making across stakeholders and quickly remove roadblocks when there are conflicting agendas or uncertainties in the available information.
- Long-term goal: To get into the C level role and lead the direct reports and align the organization towards the organization’s mission statements.
I will also improve organization’s mission statement if it becomes necessary to align with climate change, equity and fairness, and an evolving technological atmosphere.
By enrolling in the SFU EMBA program, I know that I can achieve these career goals more effectively than without this education. The curriculum will provide me with the necessary knowledge, skills, and insight to lead my team, progress into senior roles and ultimately make a significant impact as a C-level executive.
