Over the years, I’ve planned and executed various projects working with people possessing varying skills and level of experience. I’ve had direct reports and assigned resources, overseeing teams comprised of individuals in entry-level positions, professionals in roles such as doctors, engineers and lawyers, senior leadership positions including directors, C-Level executives.
My experience in managing teams included:
- defining the tasks,
- ensuring the staff are equipped with the resources required to complete the tasks and
- ensuring that they have met the target completion dates for the tasks.
I’ve fostered an atmosphere of open and clear communication to ensure that all team members are aware of the major changes/events that affect the team and the organization.
Although I’ve predominantly led these teams as a consultant, I’ve seldom had any negative feedback on my leadership style or approach. My career has been mainly in people, process, and technology changes and I’ve always strived to share my knowledge with the operational teams with a collaborative mindset.
I am now at a point in my career where I aspire to understand organizational structures and their sensitivity to change and disruption. Given the outline of this program, I believe this program will significantly enhance my management skills in the following ways:
- Advanced decision-making abilities: by learning skills to rationalize decisions when there are risks and uncertainties.
- Understanding of new marketing tools: by gaininginsights into the latest marketing strategies enabling me to effectively leverage them into public-relations outreach and revenue growth.
- Knowledge of organizational transformations: by deepening my understanding of what drives organizational transformations as companies are evolving into a more technology driven world.
- Corporate responsibility: by equipping me with skills necessary to ensure corporate responsibility and ensure that all decisions lead to positive impact on society and the environment.
Upon completing SFU’s EMBA program, I hope that my management skills will significantly improve, and thrust me towards my long-term career aspirations.
